Juppongatana In Rurouni Kenshin

The Juppongatana is a special attack force of elite warriors assembled and commanded by Shishio Makoto for the purpose of leading his revolutionary army against the Meiji government. As a group of extremely skilled fighters and warriors, they are considered as some of the most powerful in all of the nation of Japan in the era of the Meiji, and as the most powerful within the ranks of Shishio's militia.

Shishio Makoto

Nickname: Battosai's successor
Fighting Style: The Three Swords Secret
Weapons: Mugenjin, Wakizashi
Description: Shishio Makoto is the primary antagonist of the Kyoto arc and a former Ishin Shishi hitokiri known within the ranks as the Battosai's successor. But after his comrades in the government attempted and failed to assassinate him, Shishio Makoto spent the next decade slowly amassing power and developing an anti-government militia headed by his own private group of elite warriors, the Juppongatana. He is one of the deadliest warriors to have ever lived. A master swordsman, his sword strikes are highly precise. He was able to cut one of his soldiers in half by quickly unsheathing and sheathing his blade without it being seen leaving the scabbard.

• Ichi no Hiken: Homura Dama (First Secret Sword: Blazing Soul): This is the technique Shishio has used the most. He created sparks from the frictions between the blade and sheath, to ignite the human fats. The result is being simultaneously burned and slashed; even if the opponent dodges the actual blade, the flame extends the range and effect of the swing.
• Ni no Hiken: Guren Kaina (Second Secret Sword: Crimson Lotus Upper Arm): Shishio fills his gauntlets with gunpowder, and ignites them with the sparks caused by the Mugenjin. Thus resulting in an explosion. Guren Kaina yields a lot of force and is usually performed while his opponent is at close-range, preferably in his grip.
• Tsui no Hiken: Kaguzuchi (Last Secret Sword: Fire Bearing Spirit God): The ultimate technique in Shishio's arsenal. He activates it by scraping his blade from the base to the tip on the end of the sheath, creating a small fire-cyclone around the edge, then slashing at the enemy, which engulfs them in a pillar of fire. Thus, he can incinerate them entirely while cutting through them.

Seta Soujiro 

Nickname: Soujiro The Tenken
Fighting Style: Tenken
Weapons: Nagasone Kotetsu (Katana), Kikuichimonji Norimune (Katana), Wakizashi
Description: Seta Soujiro was the fastest member of the Juppongatana. He was the right-hand man of Shishio Makoto and the most skilled swordsman among his crew. He was usually seen by Shishio's side. When not with Shishio, he was off on missions such as assassinations or gathering the other Juppongatana. He believes in Shishio's philosophy that only the fittest survive. "If you're strong, you live; if you're weak, you die."

• Shukuchi (Reduced Earth): Soujiro moves at such speed that cannot be perceived by the human eye, only showing his footsteps crashing into the floor. This also allows him to run on walls.
• Shuntensatsu (Blinking Heaven Kill): This is the only attack Soujiro named himself. It involves using Batoujutsu combined with the speed of Shukuchi. It is called for its ability to instantly kill its target victim, a process that wouldn't even be painful due to the speed with which the target is dispatched.

Usui Uonuma

Nickname: Usui The Blind Swordsman
Weapons: Katana, Rochin and Tinbe
Description: Usui Uonuma was a member of the Juppongatana, and a former hitokiri. He is a murderous and almost demonic blind killer claimed to have possessed the ability to sense movements and emotions through hearing, which he calls his Mind's Eye. He uses a spear, with a sphere on one end, as his main weapon. However, if the sphere gets destroyed, he splits the spear in half and uses it with the shield.

• Rochin: A short spear that has a sphere attached to one end. If the sphere is destroyed, the spear can he split in half.
• Tinbe: A shield shield like shield with an eye close to the top of the shield. Usui uses the Tinbe to divert an incoming attack.
• Hyakka Ryoran: Usui uses both the blade and the mace at the end of his spear to attack the opponent quickly and multiple times.

Yukyuzan Anji 

Nickname: Anji The Destroying Bright King
Fighting Style: Futae no Kiwami
Weapons: Hand to Hand Combat, Dagger with Seismic Capabilities
Description: Yukyuzan Anji was one of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's orders.He is a muscle tempered and highly trained fallen monk claiming the titles of the Wisdom Kings of Buddhist lore who uses hand to hand martial arts, alongside kenpo and a devastatingly powerful destructive technique known as the Mastery of the Two Layers.

• Futae no Kiwami (Mastery of Two Layers): This allows him to strike an object quickly, with only milliseconds between each attack. He completely destroys the object, letting the first strike dissipate the natural resistance of the object and the second strike destroying the object while it is weakened.
• The Kiwami Hazushi (Extremity Release): This negates the effects of the first. It is done by punching your own body in the opposite direction of the opponent’s Futae no Kiwami.
• The Touate (Distant Hit): This is done by thrusting a small blade into the ground and causing the Futae no Kiwami to occur in the surrounding area of the user.

Sawagejo Cho 

Nickname: Cho the Swordhunter
Weapons: several katana, Renbato, Hakujin no Tachi
Description: Sawagejo Cho is one of Shishio's Juppongatana. He lives in the Kansai district, so he is the first to arrive when Shishio summons the Juppongatana to Kyoto. He wields various blades and swords of unique rarity and extremely deadly and fatal designs that he has collected over the years. His goal is to use every kind of sword in the world, and his favorite type of sword are the ones made by Shakku Arai. After Shishio's defeat, he works for the police, and helps with the Enishi case.

• Katana: Cho has two katana strapped on his back.
• Renbato (Chain Blade Sword): One of Shakku's earlier swords. Two katanas are connected at the hilt to form one sword with two parallel blades. The idea behind this is, even if the cut doesn't kill you, two cuts made so close together can't be stictched up and the victim will die by blood loss or of infection.
• Hakujin no Tachi (Tachi of the Thin Blade): One of Shakku's last swords. It's very long and was made as thin as possible. The tip is weighted so the wielder can control the directon the blade flies with a flick of the wrist which makes dodging by a small margin dangerous.

Henya Kariwa

Nickname: Henya The Flighted
Fighting Style: Hiku Happa
Weapons: Dynamite, Arm blade
Description: Henya Kariwa was a member of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's orders. Henya's technique is called Hiku Happa which uses a style centered around literally flying in battle, while using wristmounted blades and gunpowder bombs. Because he has such a light body, Henya is able to use dynamite to propel himself high in the air. Also, the dynamite might injure his enemies and cloud their vision, a moment Henya uses to strike them with the blade attached to his left arm.

Honjou Kamatari

Nickname: Kamatari The Large Scythe
Fighting Style: Honjo-Ryu
Weapons: Giant Kama
Description: Honjou Kamatari was a member of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's orders. He is a cross-dressing man who takes pride in his womanly status. Kamatari uses a very heavy scythe-like weapon, a reaper, with a chain ball on the end of the weapon; this is called Ogama. He also uses his own style called Honjo-Ryu that has three different techniques.

• Midare Benten (Disheveled Benten): He spins the scythe causing the chain and the ball to form a sphere around his body to destroy anything that comes into contact and to block anything that tries to attack his body
• Benten Mawashi (Unwrapping Benten): Makes use of his broken scythe by twirling the blade and chain rapidly like the blade of a helicopter.
• Unnamed Technique: It is an offensive move used by swinging the iron ball at the end into the opponent if the scythe can not be used.

Iwanbou

Nickname: Iwanbou The Round Demon
Description: Iwanbou is a fat, mentally challenged, but violently unpredictable and chaotic madman wielding finger mounted blades. But actually he is a series of intricate battle puppets created and piloted by Gein. Iwanbou version 1 was a member of the Juppongatana. It is silent with the occasional laugh.

• Impact Absorption: The Iwanbo's thick skin is hard to perforate.

Fuji

Nickname: Fuji The Destroying Yang
Weapons: Giant Katana
Description: Fuji was a member of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's control. He is a fearsome and omninous looking giant of a man, often considered more monster than human. Despite his appearance, Fuji is shown to be kind and peaceful, not wanting to fight. However, he has an incredible amount of strength. With his large sword, Fuji is capable of destroying buildings.

Saizuchi

Nickname: Saizuchi The Destroying Yin
Description: Saizuchi was a member of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's orders. He is a small, manipulative and miserly elderly man whose edge lies in his persuasion and speech. He was also an arrogant, condescending old man who believed in age elitism, believing he was superior to others due to his age, experience in life, and intelligence. Saizuchi is usually seen with Fuji.

Houji Sadojima

Nickname: Houji The One Hundred Fold Knowledged
Weapon: Rifle
Description: Houji Sadojima was a member of the Juppongatana, an organization under Shishio Makoto's orders. He is typically armed with a rifle and is shown to be an incredible marksman that is capable of hitting a target as small as a button with pin-point accuracy. However, his sword comes from his sharp and very cunning mind.

Komagata Yumi

Nickname: Hanahomura
Description: Komagata Yumi was a close follower, and also lover, of Shishio Makoto and one of the more loyal members of the Juppongatana. She nearly always appeared by her beloved's side, even after his death. As a very intelligent woman and former high-class courtesan, Yumi is quite knowledgeable in regards to international affairs and modern discourse. Though entirely clueless when it comes to swords and swordsmanship, she has demonstrated the ability to operate modern Western machines such as the telegraph and seems to be the chief monitor of Shishio's medical condition.
