Discs & Devices In Monster Rancher
There are several discs mentioned in Monster Rancher series. They are functioned as the vessel of the monsters and require a device in order to summon them. To know better regarding the items, I made complete list below:
A lost disc is a mystery disc that is created when a monster reverts back to its locked form. In the anime series, these discs are shown tangled in vines and stumps, probably just as a way to distinguish them from normal disc stones.
Mystery Discs (also called Disc Stones or Saucer Stones) are flat, spherical tablets that contain a monster's genetic makeup inside. These were said to be created by Colona and entrusted to the Tochikans as a way to help them and give them companionship.
A Pandora Disc is a special type of Mystery Disc that unlocks a different monster each time depending on when it is used in the Shrine. Pandora Discs can be very hard to predict because they are affected by factors like rank and time of year.
The Dark Disc is a special type of Mystery Disc that bears the symbol of the ancient Pendant Civilization on its surface. The Baddies begin to use this as a symbol of their hatred, thus the name "Dark Disc." Unlike other Discs, it can only be unlocked at a special shrine with the use of the Magic Stone.
A Monster Tablet (usually just called a Slate) is a man-made mystery disc that has ancient inscriptions of the Pendant people on it. They used these inscriptions to mark which type of monster was inside for easy storage and regeneration. Many of the characters are similar to the Monster Alphabet.
The Magic Stone (also called the Pendant Stone or Jade Orb) is an item created by the ancient Pendant civilization to lead its owner to the soul of the legendary Phoenix. The catch is that only someone of the ancient Tochikan bloodline can operate it.
Shrines are temples or ruins that used to be ancient laboratories where monsters could be sealed or unsealed in disc stones or tablets. Some are disguised and hidden, but more recently, cities and towns have been built around shrines so that the unlocking process runs much more smoothly. Each city usually has a Shrine Master, and occasionally several Shrine Maidens or workers who assist them.
Final Gate
The Final Gate was a device built near the end of the Final War, designed much like a Shrine but built to reverse the effects and turn monsters back into mystery discs. Given enough power, it would function as a "reset" on all of the monsters who had been unlocked from discs by the scientists. It was also powerful enough to separate Moo and the Phoenix's souls from their bodies.
