All Spirits In The World Of Avatar

The Spirit World is a parallel world that appears alongside the world inhabited by humans. It is home to the spirits, a vast range of immortal, and supernatural entities. To know more about the spirits in the world of Avatar, a brief list is given below:

The Painted Lady
Known for her gentleness and healing abilities, the Painted Lady is a powerful and benevolent spirit who watched over the river town of Jang Hui, until a Fire Nation factory moved in ten years ago and began polluting the river. It was this event that drove the Painted Lady away, leaving the villagers to fend for themselves. As is the case with many other spirits, only spiritually enlightened people can see the Painted Lady. Once Katara helps the villagers of Jang Hui to drive away the Fire Nation and clean the river, the Painted Lady reveals herself to Katara and thanks her.

Koi Fish Spirit Monster
When Zhao killed the Moon Spirit, he created a great imbalance in nature. So the Ocean Spirit connected with the Spirit of the Avatar to create this monstrous creature. Made entirely of water and light, this destructive creature is literally the wrath of the ocean in physical form.

Spirit World Firefly
This is an unusual spirit world creature made up entirely of glowing light. If you are looking for something, just follow its light and it might lead you to what you’re looking for.

Curly-tailed Bluenose
This spirit world animal resembles a monkey with an unusual face. It has a distinctive bright blue nose. Unfortunately for this animal it was a face that Koh liked. The curly tail bluenose was one of Koh’s most recent victims.

Odd Spirit
He is one of many strange looking spirits living in the Spirit World. It is common for spirit world creatures to be in the shape of animals and this odd spirit looks like an old baboon. He is a very irritable spirit who hates to be disturbed while trying to meditate and he speaks with a funny accent.

Koh, the Face Stealer
Koh is one of the oldest, most knowledgeable, and most dangerous inhabitants of the spirit world. In fact, he is nearly as old as the Ocean and Moon spirits. His body resembles a giant centipede-like bug, and he has millions of different faces. His faces are the faces of his victims, for Koh is a face stealer. If you must speak with Koh, you must be careful not to show even the slightest facial expression in front of him, or he will steal your face. Koh collects these faces and uses them as his own, often shifting between faces, depending on his mood. Some of Koh’s many different faces include a monkey, an angry man, an owl, a Fire Nation soldier, and a beautiful girl. Koh is always excited to see a new face and Aang’s especially piques his interest.

Ocean and Moon Spirits
These ancient and powerful spirits keep balance in the Water Tribe. Known as Tui and La in the spirit world, they are two of the oldest spirits on Earth. Legend says that the Ocean and Moon spirits permanently crossed over from the spirit world into the mortal world near the beginning of time. They created the oasis in the North Pole and took the form of two koi fish. Over the ages, few have known the Ocean and Moon spirits’ true identities. But when a young lieutenant named Zhao looted an underground Earth Kingdom library, he discovered that the Ocean and Moon were actually the two koi fish. He kept this knowledge a secret for years, knowing it would provide him a strategic advantage if he ever invaded the North Pole.

Hei Bai
This is the black and white spirit who has guarded the village’s forest for thousands of years. In the Spirit world, the Hei Bai is a frightening six-legged creature, but in the natural world, the spirit takes the form of a harmless panda bear. However, because of the Winter Solstice, the villagers see him in his more frightening and destructive spirit form. Hei Bai is angry that the Fire Nation burned down his forest home. As the Winter Solstice draws near, he attacks the village, destroying homes and taking people.

Knowledge Seekers
Knowledge seekers are technically not animals, but rather spirits who resemble foxes. They assist Wan Shi Tong by collecting old books and parchments from around the world and delivering them to the library’s archives. The Knowledge Seekers were also designed to help library patrons, so anyone who has questions about a library book can expect assistance from these little foxes. They may, however, expect a treat in return.

Wan Shi Tong
Wan Shi Tong is the knowledge spirit of the Avatar world, an ancient and powerful being who knows more than any human walking the earth. In fact, his name is a Mandarin Chinese phrase that literally means “He Who Knows 10,000 Things.” In his physical form, Wan Shi Tong resembles a giant owl- the animal symbol of knowledge. And when angry, he transforms into a ferocious owl-dragon. He never misses a chance to learn a new fact, or to brag about his vast intelligence.
