All Organizations In The World Of Avatar

Organizations in the world of Avatar can be found along the series. The structure of such organizations differ greatly throughout the four nations, though there are unofficial organizations available in smaller groups. See all the description below:

Rough Rhinos
The Rough Rhinos are an elite group of Fire Nation cavalry. There are five members of the group: Colonel Mongke, Ogodei, Yeh-Lu, Kahchi, and Vachir, each of whom carries a different specialized weapon. They are highly skilled, and able to ride their Komodo rhinos silently through the brush. A little known fact about the rough rhinos is that they are a very talented singing group. The Rough Rhino group is led by the gruff Colonel Mongke, whose quick wits and ruthless tactics make him a formidable opponent. Mongke is the only Firebender in the group. He once served under Uncle Iroh in the Fire Nation army.

Trebuchet Operators
These are large, muscular men who work on the deck of Fire Nation ships, operating the trebuchets. They are not Firebenders, but their strength is used to load the trebuchet nets with heavy boulders. They carry large hammers that are used to fire the trebuchets. The hammers also come in handy as weapons.

The Yuyan Archers
These tattooed archers are one of the Fire Nation’s secret weapons. They are used for very stealthy missions where precision and accuracy are vital for success. One legend says that the Yuyan can pin a fly to tree from 100 yards away without killing it.

The Zhang Tribe
The Fire Nation attacked this Earth Kingdom tribe, forcing them to flee their homeland. The Zhang are now refugees fleeing to the capital city of Ba Sing Se. In general, the people of this tribe are very messy and unkempt. This is due in part to their history as a society of hunters and outdoorsmen, though the more modern Zhang have taken interest in many industries. This tribe has a hundred year old feud with the members of the Gan Jin tribe that began when the Gan Jin unjustly imprisoned their forefather. The Zhang leader is a powerful female warrior whose weapon of choice is a two handed crescent sword.

Pirates
War is good for business.  Especially pirate business. These pirates come from all over the Avatar world to trade with anyone with deep pockets. If you are looking for stolen or illegal goods, these guys are the first place to look. They are not benders, but they fight dirty, and they are formidable in a street brawl due to their trickery.

The Five Fire Sages
The sages are the last of their kind, remnants of a bygone era in the Fire Nation when more importance was placed on spirituality. The five sages live at the Fire Nation sanctuary on the crescent island. They are wise spiritual leaders as well as powerful Firebenders. Their job is to watch over the sanctuary, protect it from invaders, and gather what knowledge they can about the Avatar.

The Air Nomads
A peaceful race that was wiped out by the Fire Nation a hundred years ago. The Air Nomads traveled the world on their flying bison. They were the most spiritual of all the cultures and lived in harmony with nature. And unlike the other cultures, all Air Nomads are Airbenders. Aang is the last known member of the Air Nomads.

Council of Five
This is a group of five highly ranking Earth Kingdom Generals, including General Sung and General How. Together, they decide the best use of their armies fighting outside the wall. The Council of Five designs and implements any war plans. They plan things like: the best way to protect the city, and the proposed invasion of the Fire Nation. In addition to this, the Council also controls the King’s Guards - an elite force of guards who protect the king. The Council of Five has been together for as long there’s been a king of Ba Sing Se, and they have always worked hand in hand with the king to protect the city. But for many years now, the Council has worked in secrecy, hiding the fact that there is a war from the Earth King. That is, until recent events exposed everything to their leader

Elegant Young Lady
These young ladies who attend the Five Seven Five Society hail from Ba Sing Se’s upper echelon of families, but unlike Star and her friends, they enjoy a mental workout. In addition to haiku slamming, they also enjoy tea parties, garden parties and regular parties.

The Freedom Fighters
The Freedom Fighters are a rag-tag group of kids who do what they can to fight the Fire Nation. Planning their attacks from a secret treetop hideout, these kids are very skilled woodsmen who communicate with bird calls to avoid detection. Ever since the Fire Nation took over a nearby town, the freedom fighters have been cutting off Fire Nation supply lines and using all available means to sabotage their occupation. They are all wanted by the Fire Nation.

Sandbenders
These are Earthbenders who have adapted to life in the Si Wong Desert. Their skills differ greatly from those of ordinary Earthbenders. As their name indicates, sandbenders bend sand. They move quickly out in the desert, thanks to their specialized “sand-sailers”. Since economic opportunities are limited in the desert, Sandbenders get by however they can. They’ve been known to scavenge for dead animals, or even steal from passing travelers at the nearby cantina.

Order of the White Lotus
A secret society devoted to the sharing of ancient knowledge and philosophy across national and political divides. Formed centuries ago by the wisest scholars from all over the world, OWL began as a club where these ancient masters could challenge one another on the Pai Sho table. They derived their name from the White Lotus tile used in Pai Sho, a key element in their favored strategy in the game. The elderly members include: Iroh (their leader), Master Pakku, Piandao, King Bumi, and Jeong Jeong.
